The entire Tulum peninsula is an electricity-free area.
Lit by the stars and candles, the facility has minimal impact on the environment. This secluded resort is bound by the jungle on one side and the ocean on the other, providing a unique opportunity to rest in the support of the natural world. There is a small market within walking distance and the famous Mayan ruins of Tulum are nearby. Mayan healers are available for sessions in massage and other forms of bodywork. The environment of Tulum and Retiro Maya provide the ideal conditions for a restorative and renewing yoga retreat.Each of Retiro Maya's thatched roof cottages have been built respecting the properties natural surroundings with panoramic doors offering a magnificent veiw of the Mayan sea, comfortable and beautifully covered beds, a shaded terrace equipped with cozy lounge chairs and colorful hammocks. Each has a private bathroom decorated with Mexican tiles, solar heated showers and a small jardinaire decorated with abundant plants from the region. Retiro Maya features one of the best restaurants in Tulum, with a privileged view of the Caribbean. Authentic vegetarian Mexican dishes and tropical drinks are all among our specialties. The studio is crowned by a huge thatched palapa roof and has a spacious terrace with glass doors that open widely to integrate both spaces, allowing ocean breeze and the soothing sound of waves to fill the room.
KATHREEN BEET BFA (Hons), ERYT 500A seasoned and skilled teacher, Kathryn has been studying, practicing and teaching Yogafor over 15 years. A natural nurturer with a keen eye for detail, she works with individuals privately and in small groups providing detailed verbal instruction, effective hands-on adaptation and definitive demonstration to support deeper understanding of and overall proficiency in all aspects of the practice of Yoga. She also teaches large group Vinyasa classes which are fun, creative, challenging, inspiring and educational.
As Yoga Therapist for Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Solutions she provides patients with treatment programs, to facilitate the healing process. As director of Teacher Training at YogaSpace she candidly shares her extensive knowledge and is passionate about guiding her trainees towards their own greatness.Kathryn has been leading Yoga Retreats in exotic locations for close to ten years. International participants have described them as fun, educational, transformational and healing.Her daily personal practice consists of asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, reading/research and writing and serves both to maintain a strong personal centre and to inform inspired and profound teaching.
